Intro: Education Commission in India was formed on July 14, 1964, under the chairmanship of Daulat Singh Kothari. The commission was popularly known as Kothari Commission. The purpose of this Commission was to examine all the aspects of the educational institutions in India and generate guidelines and policies for the development of education in India. The main motive behind this commission was to advise the government on a standardized national pattern of education in India.

Education is one of the most powerful tools in life.it plays an initiative role in everyone’s life. It allows us to find the real meaning behind everything and help to improve lives in a massive way. Education gives us an understanding so that we can easily understand the world around us and also offers us an opportunity to use the knowledge that we’ve gained. It makes people aware of their rights and the evil practice that is going in on our society. Only literate people can boldly protest against the evils.
Definitely, we can say that education is the key to turning a weakness into a strength. It gives us a different way to understand the problems that lay ahead of us and help to resolve them. Most importantly education provides a mental ability to make the right decision. Educated people can easily differentiate between right and wrong. For any kind of development whether it is related to one’s personal development or country development only educated people can do initiative steps to develop a country in a better way.
Education helps to reduce the crime rates. For prosperous and happy life education is most important. With the help of education, we can easily secure our future and it helps to gain a better reputation in society. It increases the chances of success too. It also helps to improve the economy. Overall education is the platform that makes it possible to remove all obstacles.

Who was the 1st education minister of India?:
Abul Kalam Azad was the 1st education minister of India. He was a renowned scholar, poet, and journalist. Also, he gave countless contributions to the Indian freedom struggle. He was born on 11th November 1888. National education day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Abul Kalam Azad. He is popularly known as Maulana Azad. He was expert in various languages like : Arabic, English, Hindi, Urdu, Persian and Bengali. So we can consider him as a multilingual person. He died on 22feb 1958 In Delhi.

University education commission (1948-49): According to the commission the role of school and a university should be distinct. The aim of a school should be to provide an appropriate education. The University education commission Focuses on the importance of integrating general education into the school curriculum.
Secondary education commission (1952-53):
The main motto of this commission was to install the higher secondary system.
Emphasis on education and vocational guidance
improvement in methods of teaching and system of examination,
to focus on three language formulas.
The education commission (1964-66):
The commission was known as Kothari Commission. It was formed under the chairmanship of Dr.D.S Kothari. It proposed that education be restructured into a standardized 10+2+3 pattern.
National knowledge commission (2009): NKC was established to address the educational challenges of the 21st century. Former Pm Dr. Manmohan Singh established the National knowledge commission in June 2005. NKC is a non-profit organization dedicated to making a proposal in fields such as the right to education, libraries and the environment.

The Kothari commission from 1964 to 1966 was considered the best education commission. It was set by the government of India to examine all the aspects of the educational sector in India and advise better guidelines and policies for the development of education in India.
Literacy in India Today:
The literacy rate in our country is around 77.7%. so if we talk about the male literacy rate which is 84.7% and 70.3% about Women’s literacy rate. As per the report Kerala is the most literate state. The literacy rate is there 92.2%, capital of India is on 2nd no. With having 88.7%. Uttrakhand is at no 3rd with 87.6%. and Himachal Pradesh’s 86.6%(4th position).

The present education minister is Dharmendra Pradhan. He is trying to make the education commission in India better.
Role of the education commissioner in the education system:
District education officer (DEO) controls the whole issues regarding education
Manage, guide, hear the complaints of the teachers, other staff, and the general public.
Visit each school at least twice a month.
Advise the Minister on required resources and other materials the school needs in order to confirm that all schools have necessary resources.
Monitor the school activities.
Build a bridge between school and the ministry of education.
New education policy (2020):
The new education policy was launched on July 29, 2020, which brings several major reforms in education in India.
The policy emphasis on mother tongue till class 5th.
Coding and internships in class 6th.
Flexible of subjects in classes 9th to 12th.
New 5+3+3+4school curriculum with 12 years of schooling and 3 years of Anganwadi/pre-schooling.
Reforms in exam pattern, like board exam to be broken into two, to test core capabilities.
Although the education commission & committee are doing great work still there are some drawbacks like the Indian education judge students on the basis of their academic performance. The focus is only on the theory subjects which doesn’t allow a student to look beyond the main subject they’ve taken. It is usually seen that students just mug up the formulas and theories without actually understanding them.
Most of the teachers get higher salaries but only a few take their profession seriously. Now the question is how can we improve the Indian education system? Well, the curriculum should be designed according to the present needs of the world. Proper training should be given to teachers and faculty. Definitely, new education policy will bring the dramatic changes not in 1-2 years but in the decade. This was all about the education commission in India.
